Headstart

Headstart is an alternative to custody program for males between 14-18 years of age. Located in Campbell River, BC, Headstart is a six-month long program.  While in the program, youth reside with contracted caregivers.  Caregivers provide positive support and supervision to youth.  Additionally, caregivers receive 24/7 support from program staff.

The Headstart program emphasises life skills, academics, employment readiness, coping skills, communication and self-awareness, healthy relationships, structured recreational activities, independant-living readiness (as appropriate), and much more!  Please see the Headstart Youth Handbook  for more information.

Headstart is open to young men living in BC who are on a probation order that includes a condition to attend a Full-Time Attendance Program.  There are a total of five (5) spaces in the program and intake is continous.

Referrals (from Probation Officers only) are accepted by fax: 250-286-6080 during regular business hours, Monday to Friday.

The Headstart staff team includes two Youth Counsellors, a School District 72 Teacher, Counselling Coordinator and Family Resource Worker.  Headstart youth are able to participate in group and individual counselling as well as accessing The John Howard Society of North Island Alcohol and Drug Counsellors.
